Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a health care system that originated in ancient China, and has evolved over 3000 years.
TCM practitioners use acupuncture to treat or prevent a variety of health problems. In TCM, the body is regarded as an elaborate energetic system. Mind and body are viewed as “one” and both are considered to be important components in diagnosis and treatment. Chinese Medicine principles include the concept of Yin and Yang, two opposing yet complimentary forces which when balanced, create harmony within the body.
A constant uninterrupted flow of vital energy or essential Qi (pronounced “chee”) moves through the body along 12 main meridians or channels. Many factors can disrupt the flow of Qi or the balance of Yin and Yang. These include injury, stress, disease, constitutional weakness, poor diet or lifestyle.
Acupuncture and TCM treatments restore the normal flow of Qi, and balance Yin and Yang to stimulate the body’s innate healing mechanisms, restoring health to the body and the mind.
